FRANCESCO MERNINI
Francesco Mernini was born in Rome in 1981.
He began his artistic research using painting as his main medium and enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome in 1998.?His interests subsequently broadened to include other idioms, in particular sound and video, which came to form an integral part of the development of his research.
During these years he focused his attention on a study of the relations between people and identity in documentary-style paintings, constructed chromatically in black and white. He began to exhibit his work in 2003, collaborating with a number of Italian Galleries. At the same time, his works came to form part of private and public collections in both Europe and the United States.
Francesco Mernini’s work explores the relationship between painting and multimedia, taking as its basic concept the virtual nature of the perceptible world. He embraces the constructivist theory according to which reality cannot be represented in an objective way since the world we see is a result of our own constructions. Mernini paints in a quasi-maniacal way, at once full of tension and scientifically balanced.
